Actor John Cusack apologized after he retweeted a meme that he later admitted was anti-Semitic.
"It's clear that even if it was Israel's flag & even if you don't have antisemitic bone in your body, it is still an antisemitic cartoon. Because it deploys anti jewish stereotypes in its attacks on Israel, even if those critiques about state violence are legit I mistakenly retweeted an alt right account I thought was agreeing With the horrible bombing of a hospital in Palestine," Cusack said Monday on Twitter.

The actor earlier had tweeted out a meme that said, "To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you were not allowed to criticize." The meme included a picture of a hand with a Star of David crushing people. Cusack added to the meme the caption, "Follow the money."
The quote, falsely attributed to French philosopher Voltaire, was originally from Kevin Alfred Strom, a white nationalist and Holocaust denier in an article titled "All America Must Know the Terror That is Upon Us" in which he spouts anti-Semitic conspiracies.
After being called out on Twitter and deleting the initial tweet, Cusack defended himself, claiming he thought the Star of David represented Israel rather than all Jews.

Cusack also claimed a bot made him retweet it and all bot accounts are alt-right accounts.
