Internet king Lil Nas X officially won the night at 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, thanks not only to his Song of the Year win for "Old Town Road," but for the props he brought with him to his acceptance speech.
The VMA was his first award ever — likely the first of many — and Lil Nas X did not disappoint when he stepped up to the mic. "I want to say thank you to this man for helping me take my career to the next level," he said, pointing to Billy Ray Cyrus, who was also on stage. He then pulled out an actual scroll from his pocket, joking that he had prepared "a little speech."
Lil Nas X's scroll moment has, of course, already been turned into a gif and a meme, which makes sense: he's often praised as being exceptionally good at being extremely online. One fan shared the gif and joked, "Lil nas x is a whole mood," and others compared the moment to SpongeBob Squarepants scenes where the sponge also holds lengthy paper scrolls. Another jabbed at fine dining establishment The Cheesecake Factory, likening the moment to opening the restaurant's intensive menu.
